The R Is for Rama.
Designed with Rama. Built for Footwork.
Hala developed the limited-edition Atcha 86-R and Atcha 96-R with whitewater rider Kazunori “Rama” Hirama. Inspired by Japanese freestyle SUP, both boards pair a wider tail with a reshaped rocker profile and an extended deck pad. The idea is simple: give you room to set a wider stance, move your feet, and steer with deliberate front-to-back weight shifts.
These are specialty members of the Charge Series, with a distinct feel on the river. Choose the R for active footwork and room to experiment. Choose a standard Atcha if quicker responses from a neutral stance are your priority.
Atcha 86-R or Atcha 96-R?
Choose Your Atcha R
Two sizes, the same approach to riding: a wider stance, deliberate weight shifts, and room to move. Start with the platform that suits your paddling.
Atcha 86-R
An 8'6" board that felt more stable and approachable in straightforward rapids than testers expected from its size. The wider tail and extended deck pad give you space to work your line with deliberate footwork.
Choose it for: Short-board size with a steadier feel through read-and-run rapids. For quicker technical maneuvers, compare the standard Atcha 86.

A 9'6" platform that settles into a line and carries speed through ferries, eddy lines, and wave trains. Shift back to free the nose and pivot, then step forward to drive.
Choose it for: A larger platform built around active weight shifts. For a board that turns readily from a neutral stance, compare the standard Atcha 96.

Want to move your feet and experiment with a wider stance? The R boards give you a wider tail, an extended deck pad, and clear foot-placement cues.
Prefer quicker responses with less deliberate weight shifting? The standard Atcha 86 and Atcha 96 remain the choices to compare. The R boards ask more of your footwork to engage a rail.
Both R boards include a pump, bag, fins, and repair kit. Paddle sold separately.
A distinct way to ride
Is the Atcha R Your Board?
You Steer with Your Feet
You enjoy moving forward and back to change how a board tracks and turns. The R rewards deliberate weight shifts rather than passive edging.
You Want Room to Experiment
A wider tail and extended deck pad give you space for a wider stance, pivots, and new moves. Raised stomp pads and a tail foot index help you find your position.
You Value a Steadier Platform
You are drawn to the R's steady feel in pushy water and are willing to work more deliberately to engage a rail. That tradeoff is part of its character.
If quick technical responses or turning from a neutral stance matter most, explore the standard Atcha 86 and Atcha 96. Our team can help you compare.
What makes an R an R
Wider Stance. Deliberate Moves.
The R boards reshape the familiar Atcha platform around Rama's approach to whitewater SUP.
Wider Tail, Reshaped Rocker
Both R tails are 12 cm (4.7") wider than their standard Atcha counterparts at one foot from the tail. The rocker profile shifts the stable zone rearward and starts the nose rocker sooner. Engage the rail deliberately: shift back, then press through the inside foot.
More Room for Footwork
An extended deck pad gives you traction as you move forward and back. Matching 1.5" raised stomp pads at the nose and tail, plus a raised tail foot index, provide clear placement cues for a wider stance and committed pivots.
StompBox 2.5 Retractable Fin
The patented StompBox 2.5 keeps the center fin deployed with spring pressure. On rock contact, the fin deflects and returns to position. Both R boards include the retractable center fin and two 4.5" gummy side-bite click fins.

Limited Edition. Hala Support.
