Hala Fins

Fins Drive Your Experience

Fins determine how your board tracks, surfs, and handles rock contact. Hala offers two distinct fin systems — the patented StompBox for river boards and a Universal Center Fin Box for flatwater and all-water boards — plus a full range of side-bite click fins that work across the lineup.

Hala StompBox 2.5 retractable fin system installed on the Hala Rado inflatable paddleboard — spring-loaded for automatic retraction in shallow and rocky water

StompBox 2.5™ — Hala's Patented Retractable Fin System

Most retractable fins rely on gravity to hold the fin down. In current, that means the fin bounces and shudders instead of holds — costing you tracking and control. The StompBox is different: active downward spring pressure keeps the fin locked at full depth at all times, regardless of current angle or speed. Hit a rock and it deflects cleanly, springing back to full deployment before your next stroke. Zero wobble, zero bounce. US Patent 10,046,836.

The StompBox 2.5 comes standard on all Hala river boards: Atcha 96, Atcha 86, Rado, and Radito. It accepts three center fin options and pairs with any Hala side-bite click fin.

StompBox Center Fin Options

9" Spring StompFin™ — Included with every river board. The standard all-around fin for Class II–IV. Spring locks it at full depth; it deflects automatically on rock contact and springs back before your next stroke. The right fin for most river days.

9" Tracking StompFin™ — Optional upgrade. More fin surface area for stronger downriver drive and straight-line tracking. The larger footprint makes tracking rivers nearly effortless and turns a lake paddle into a purposeful one. Best for deeper water, big-volume rivers, and expedition runs where you want maximum ferry hold.

4.5" StompFin™ — Optional upgrade. Swap in when the 9" would drag or hang up in shallow water. Still spring-loaded — it deflects on rock contact just like the 9". Ideal for low-water runs, technical rocky lines, and a surfy, playful feel. Compatible with StompBox 1.0, 2.0, and 2.5.

Side-Bite Click Fins — All River Boards

All Hala river boards (Atcha 96, Atcha 86, Rado, Radito) use the Hala Click Fin box system for side-bite fins, compatible with Hala Click Fins and FCS fins. Click fins seat and hold without tools — just push to click in. Five sizes let you dial your setup to the day's conditions.

4.5" Gummy Side-Bite — Included with every StompBox board. Soft compound for grip without catching on rocks. Great across the full range — shallow creeks, swollen rivers, and flatwater lakes.

4.5" Hard Side-Bite — Optional. Firmer compound for maximum carving grip, lateral stability, and edge hold. Best for high-flow river surfing, ocean breaks, and deep-water touring where you aren't worried about rock contact.

2" Gummy Side-Bite — Optional. Low-profile gummy for shallow, rocky lines where you want side hold without snag risk. The right choice when the 4.5" would hang up.

1.5" Low-Pro Side-Bite — Optional. Minimal drag profile for very shallow sections and tight rocky corridors. Provides extra tracking without the risk of catching on the bottom.

Pocket Fins (1") — Optional. Ultra-low profile — adds a tad of tracking with virtually no snag risk. Best for the shallowest approaches and most technical rocky lines.

Grub screw tip: Click fins seat without tools, but a hard rear-board strike can trigger the click-release mechanism. For aggressive whitewater, thread in the included grub screws (diagonal corners — one front-left, one rear-right) to lock the fins in place and prevent accidental release. A fin key and grub screws are included with every board.

Universal Center Fin Box — All-Water Boards

The Hoss and Straight Up use a universal US-style center fin box made from Hala's unbreakable polycarbonate. This longer box accepts multiple center fin sizes and is compatible with any US fin box fin on the market.

3" Gummy Center Fin — Shallow water and river use. Super flexible for safety; low draft for quick turns and maneuverability.

4.5" Gummy Center Fin — Shallow water and river fin. More tracking than the 3" while staying unbreakable in the gummy flex design.

8" Flex Center Fin — Classic surf shape. The right blend of tracking and maneuverability for lakes, ocean surfing, and high-flow rivers.

9" Race Center Fin — Deep draft and large surface area for maximum tracking and straight-line speed. The go-to for touring, racing, and flatwater performance.

Hala Gear universal polycarbonate center fin box, US-style, compatible with fins from 3-inch to 9-inch for flatwater touring, racing, and river SUP
